In this fascinating juxtaposition of science and art history, ophthalmologists Michael Marmor and James Ravin examine the role of vision and eye disease in art. They focus on the eye, where the process of vision originates, and investigate how aspects of vision have inspired and confounded many of the world's most famous : Michael F. Marmor.   William A Noguera committed a brutal murder and has spent almost 30 years waiting for execution but in a new book, the artist explains how painting changed his life.

The book is casebound and sewn so it lasts a long time. The hardback boards are covered in cotton cloth with a black matte stamp. Like all Lost Art Press books, “By Hand & Eye” is produced and printed entirely in the United States. This book is also available in pdf format as a DRM-free file. This is not a bad thing since the cover art is pleasing, clever, and original. It is also elegant, simple, and eye-catching and it conveys something of the tone and content of the book. In short, it is everything a cover could hope to be. Unfortunately this is not the case with the cover for Gilbert’s follow-up, Committed. Everything that.

This book provides a unique analysis of art and its history by examining the works of famous artists from an ophthalmologist's perspective. It explains how Monet and Cassatt's work may have been affected by cataracts; the ocular diseases of Degas and O'Keeffe; and possible eye problems with El Greco, Renoir and van Gogh. illus., in color.
